In Ikšķile district heating goes to the apartment buildings managed by SIA “Ikšķiles Māja”, while in the detached-house areas everyone has their own flue. Cleaning one flue costs from €100, and the cleaning certificate and the call-out to Ikšķile are included.
The heating network in Ikšķile and houses with their own heating
SIA “Ikšķiles Māja” provides heating in the apartment buildings it manages, and in 2026 the heating season there began on 5 October. The heat is produced by the municipal company SIA “MS siltums”, which in 2025 completed EU-funded projects and moved the Ikšķile heat supply from fossil fuel to renewable energy sources.
Ikšķile is not a part of Ogre but a separate town with its own housing: detached-house areas, newer residential developments, low-rise buildings and a historic centre. The heat supplier mentions heating in apartment buildings, but owners of detached houses usually heat their own homes. The type of heating depends on the age of the house: masonry stoves and cookers in older houses, pellet or gas boilers in newer ones, and often a fireplace as extra heat.

Fireplace or stove fireplace: one or two cleanings
How often to clean depends on how long the appliance holds heat. A stove fireplace with a metal body, like a boiler, stores heat for less than three hours, so its flue is cleaned twice: by 1 November and once more between 1 November and 1 March. A masonry fireplace or a stove with a heat-storing finish, which keeps warming long after the fire is out, needs one cleaning a year, by 1 November.
In a fireplace, soot collects in the smoke chamber above the firebox and on the baffle plate, which has to be taken out to clean the flue. If the glass turns black quickly, the wood is usually too damp or the air supply too low. How the job is done: fireplace cleaning and stove and fireplace cleaning.

Houses by the Daugava and on slopes: draught and wind
Ikšķile lies by the Daugava and the reservoir, and in places the bank is steep. For a house on a slope or in an open spot by the water, the wind can push smoke back down the chimney, and then the stove smokes into the room. The reason is often a chimney that is too low relative to the roof ridge or a taller neighbouring building, not a dirty flue.
The building code requires the top of the chimney to be at least 0.5 m above the roof covering and sets distances to the ridge. Caps and deflectors may be fitted on chimneys. During cleaning the specialist checks the draught and can tell whether the problem is in the channel, the height or the cap: chimney has no draught, chimney height above the roof and chimney cap installation.

New developments: modular chimneys and boilers
Suburban housing in Ikšķile is growing. In a new house the chimney is usually modular, with ceramic or stainless steel pipes, and a pellet or gas condensing boiler is connected to it. Such a channel is cleaned with brushes that suit the pipe material and diameter, and we check the condensate drain at the base.
Before a new house is accepted into service, the flue needs an inspection certificate. If you are still choosing the chimney, a comparison: ceramic or stainless steel liner. About the certificate: flue inspection for building acceptance.
Ogre municipality rules on burning
The Ogre municipality waste regulations, which also apply to Ikšķile, forbid burning household waste and biowaste (leaves, grass) in any way unless the municipality has announced a burning period. In dense private-house and garden-house areas in towns, only dry wood and dry branches without leaves may be burned, briefly and for no longer than two hours.
For a fireplace and a stove this means that leaves and garden waste are not fuel. Damp branches and leaves in a firebox give a lot of smoke and little heat, and soot settles in the flue faster.
Ogre municipality binding regulations No. 31/2023 “On household waste management in Ogre municipality” (in force from 08.03.2024), point 18.4 and the rules on briefly burning dry wood (likumi.lv/ta/id/350346), checked 04.11.2026.
Price and route to Ikšķile
Chimney cleaning in Ikšķile costs from €100 per flue, usually €100–130, with the certificate and the call-out. Cleaning a fireplace or boiler flue costs the same. Draught problems, a cap, a liner or raising the chimney are priced for your situation: the price depends on the height of the chimney, access to the roof and the materials. All prices: prices.
Ikšķile is reached by the A6 or along the railway, but the railway line and the Daugava bank limit the roads between parts of the town. In the request, give the street and, if you know, which side of the railway the house is on.
