A business needs a certificate for every cleaning. Cleaning one flue costs from €100. Write in the form the type of site and how many flues it has.
What changes for businesses from 1 January 2027
The new fire safety law names flue cleaning, the technical condition inspection of flues and heating appliances, and the cleaning of natural ventilation ducts as fire safety services. From 1 January 2027 they may be provided only by a person with appropriate professional training, and the service provider must conclude a service contract.
The work is done by a qualified chimney sweep, and the certificate states their qualification document. We will check exactly which qualification the new Cabinet regulations require as soon as they are adopted.
The Fire Safety, Firefighting and Rescue Work Law (in force since 13.11.2025), Section 7(1), points 8, 11, 12 and 14, and its second and third parts; point 4 of the transitional provisions (Section 7(2) comes into force on 01.01.2027). Who is responsible for the flues at a business site
The owner or possessor of the property is responsible for fire safety. If the premises are rented, responsibility can pass to the tenant, but only if this is written into the lease. So before the work we find out which of the two is ordering the cleaning and in whose name to draw up the certificate.
A business has no exception that allows cleaning without a certificate. That exception applies only to the owner of a private house who cleans their own solid-fuel flue. If a fire breaks out because fire safety requirements were not followed, VUGD can impose a fine of €1,400–4,300 on a legal entity.

Which sites and what needs cleaning there
| Site | Most common appliances | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Café, restaurant, pizzeria | wood-fired oven, fireplace in the dining room, grill | heavy use, the oven must have cooled down |
| Bakery, patisserie | masonry bread oven, boiler | the oven is hot almost all the time, time must be allowed for cooling |
| Smokehouse | smoking chamber with a smoke channel | a lot of tar from smouldering wood chips |
| Production site, warehouse, workshop | solid-fuel or pellet boiler house | long flue, two cleanings a season |
| Guest house, leisure complex | fireplaces in the rooms, sauna stoves | many flues at one address, seasonal demand |
Kitchen extractor ducts with grease filters are a mechanical ventilation system, not a flue, and cleaning them is a separate job with its own frequency. On natural ventilation ducts: ventilation duct cleaning.
How the work usually goes at a business
- Site inspection The inspection establishes the location of each appliance, its fuel and its cleaning deadline.
- Deadlines The flues of long-burn appliances, such as boilers and metal stoves, are cleaned twice: by 1 November and again between 1 November and 1 March. Masonry stoves need one cleaning by 1 November.
- Cooled oven The oven must have cooled down, so the cleaning is usually done when it is not in use and there are no customers in the dining room.
- Certificates We draw up a certificate for each flue. If we find damage, we record it in the certificate and offer the repair separately.
A technical condition inspection of solid and liquid-fuel appliances is needed once every five years and also when an appliance is replaced. It is a separate certificate: chimney sweep's condition report.
How much a chimney sweep for a business costs
Cleaning one flue costs from €100, with the certificate and call-out in Riga and the Riga region included. For a business the total price depends on the number of flues, their length and access, and the amount of tar in heavily used ovens. All prices: prices.
We work for businesses across Riga and the Riga region, for example in Vecrīga, Jūrmala, Sigulda and Salaspils.
