Apartment buildings get their heat from the town heating network, and there what matters most are the ventilation ducts and the certificates for the building manager. In the detached houses in the wooded surroundings and near Titurga every owner heats their own home, and there we clean boiler, stove and sauna flues. Cleaning costs from €100 per flue, and the certificate and the call-out are included.
Where the heat in Baloži comes from
Heat for the Baloži network is produced by the private company SIA “Baložu siltums” in wood chip and pellet boiler houses, with additional gas boilers. In 2023 it sold 19,128 MWh, and almost all of it went to SIA “Baložu komunālā saimniecība”. The Ķekava municipality spatial plan says that district heating in the municipality is found in the apartment building areas, and in the 2020 climate plan (2018 data) about 95% of the consumers on the Ķekava, Baloži, Valdlauči and Rāmava networks were apartment buildings.
From 01.09.2026 “Baložu komunālā saimniecība” joined SIA “Ķekavas nami”, and on 29.10.2026 the reorganisation was completed. For apartment buildings this means a new company to agree ventilation checks and certificates with. Nothing changes for detached houses: there the owners heat their homes themselves.

Apartment buildings: ventilation ducts and certificates
A flat with district heating usually has no flue of its own, but it does have a natural ventilation duct in the kitchen, bathroom and toilet. It is cleaned and checked at least once every 10 years. If the room has a gas cooker, gas boiler or water heater, the interval is once every five years. In its 2024 yearbook the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) names cleaning and checking ventilation ducts among the requirements most often ignored in residential buildings.
In an apartment building a certificate is drawn up after every cleaning, and the work is usually ordered by the building manager or the flat owners' association. The ducts are usually checked from the roof or the attic, while in the flats the draught is checked at the grilles. The most common findings are painted-over or blocked grilles, kitchen extractor hoods connected to the duct and ducts bricked up during renovations. More: ventilation check in an apartment building and chimney sweep for apartment buildings.

A gas appliance in the flat
If the flat has a gas water heater or a boiler, it has its own flue, usually in the building's shared channel. A gas appliance is serviced and checked once a year. A brick flue is checked once a year, a lined or metal one once every two years. When a gas appliance is replaced under Gaso's simplified procedure for replacing gas appliances, a certificate on the technical condition of the flue channel and the ventilation ducts is needed: chimney check for a gas boiler.

Detached houses in the forest and near Titurga
The town of Baloži is spreading beyond its historic centre: Titurga and other nearby residential areas are detached houses in a forest setting, near the lake and on damper ground. These houses have their own boilers on firewood, pellets or gas, fireplaces and saunas. Boiler and sauna stove flues are cleaned twice a season: by 1 November and once more between 1 November and 1 March.
In a damp location the outer masonry and the head of a chimney suffer more from frost and moisture, especially when the flue gases are cool and condensation forms in the channel. During cleaning the specialist looks at the chimney head, the crown slab and the joints above the roof. If they are crumbling, the repair is a separate job with its own price: chimney repair and condensation in the chimney.
Parking options differ in the new detached-house areas and in apartment building yards. In the request, say whether we can park next to the house and how to reach the roof. For a private house: chimney sweep for a house, for a sauna: sauna stove cleaning.
What must not be burned in a stove in Baloži
The Ķekava municipality waste regulations forbid burning waste. In a stove or boiler this also covers packaging, painted boards and plastic. Such smoke leaves tar that sticks to the flue walls and can catch fire. If soot is burning in the chimney, first call 112, and after that do not use the flue until it has been checked: check after a soot fire.

Price in Baloži
Chimney cleaning in Baloži costs from €100 per flue, usually €100–130, with the certificate and the call-out, and there is no separate call-out charge for Baloži. Ventilation duct cleaning and checks in an apartment building are priced for your situation: the price depends on the number of ducts, the height of the building, access to the roof and whether the ducts need cleaning or only checking.
