There the main work is ventilation ducts and certificates for the building manager. Private houses, production sites and warehouses with their own boiler need flue cleaning, which costs from €100 per flue with the cleaning certificate and the call-out.

Olaine on the heating network

According to the municipal company AS “Olaines ūdens un siltums”, heating in the town of Olaine is provided by the district heating system. Since 01.09.2026 it has had a single tariff that replaces the separate tariffs for the town of Olaine and Pārolaine, and for Jaunolaine and Stūnīši. So these villages also have heating networks. The fuel is wood chips and natural gas. In the 2026 season heating was switched on for unrenovated apartment buildings on 14 October and for renovated ones on 19 October.

A flat on the heating network usually has no flue of its own. There a chimney sweep is needed for ventilation ducts, for buildings with their own boiler house and for private houses not connected to the network.

Ventilation ducts in renovated and unrenovated buildings

The regulations require natural ventilation ducts to be cleaned and checked at least once every 10 years, and every five years in rooms with a gas cooker, boiler or water heater. A certificate is needed after each cleaning or check. The 2024 yearbook of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) also names cleaning and checking ventilation ducts on time as one of the requirements most often ignored in residential buildings.

In a renovated building with an insulated facade and airtight windows, natural ventilation works only if air can flow into the rooms. If moisture builds up in the bathroom and condensation forms on the windows, the cause may be either a blocked duct or a lack of air supply. To tell them apart, the check measures the draught at the grilles and looks at the duct from the roof. In any building it is also worth checking that the duct has not been bricked up during flat renovations and that no extractor hood is connected to it.

Production sites, warehouses and railway facilities

Olaine was planned as an industrial and residential town, and it has production, warehouse and railway areas. A building with its own boiler house, process furnace or café fireplace needs a certificate after every flue cleaning. Gas appliances are checked every year, while solid and liquid fuel appliances need a technical condition inspection with photos attached once every five years.

Industrial areas have their own safety and access rules. In the request, write whether a pass, a safety briefing or a work permit is needed and whether a tall flue can be reached without a lift. More: chimney sweep for businesses and chimney sweep's condition report.

Private houses in the town and villages

Olaine and its villages also have detached-house areas. We did not find public information on how private houses are heated in Jaunolaine, Stūnīši and other villages, so please state it in the request. If the house has a boiler or a sauna stove, these are long-burn appliances, and the flue is cleaned twice: by 1 November and once more between 1 November and 1 March. Once is enough for a masonry stove.

In houses near forests and bogs, leaves and needles tend to fall into the chimney, and in a damp location the chimney head crumbles faster. More: chimney sweep for a house and boiler flue cleaning.

No burning of waste in Olaine, not even in a garden fireplace

The Olaine municipality waste regulations forbid burning waste, including in containers, bins, bonfires and garden fireplaces, and garden waste may not be put in household waste containers. AS “Olaines ūdens un siltums” accepts autumn leaves free of charge until 14.11.2026. For a stove and a boiler this means: only dry firewood, pellets and briquettes, not leaves or packaging, which leave tar in the flue.

Frequently asked questions

Our building has an insulated facade and new windows, but moisture builds up in the bathroom. Is the ventilation duct to blame?

It may be, but not always. If the duct is clean but no air flows into the room, the draught will still be weak. A check can show what needs doing: cleaning the duct or sorting out the air supply.

Do you work on industrial sites where a pass is needed?

Yes. In the request, write what the site rules are: a pass, a safety briefing or a work permit.

Do you cover Jaunolaine, Stūnīši and Pārolaine?

Yes. Cleaning costs from €100 per flue, and the certificate and the call-out are included. Give the village and, if it is an apartment building, the building manager.
